1980-1989

Mary Kay (Moore) Altizer, BM, Piano Performance ('82). Mary Kay teaches part-time at Oaks Christian High School where she conducts the orchestra. Her other part-time occupation is performing with her husband, Jim Altizer, as "Ivory & Brass," presenting approximately 40 national concerts yearly. They have recorded 8 CDs.  Mary Kay and Jim have 4 children, and live in Thousand Oaks, CA.

Jim Altizer, BM, Trumpet Performance ('79), M.A.T. Education ('82).  Jim teaches part-time at Oaks Christian High School, and is also on the faculty of Moorpark College and Pepperdine University, teaching trumpet and Brass Techniques.  He performs approximately 40 concerts nationally each year with his wife, Mary Kay, as "Ivory & Brass".  They have recorded 8 CDs.  Jim and Mary Kay have 4 children, and live in Thousand Oaks, CA.

Mark David Barville, BM, Piano and Organ Performance ('81).  Mark taught music at Kamehameha Schools in Honolulu, HI from 1983-1988.  He received his MM in Orchestral Conducting from the University of Southern California in 1992, and worked on his doctorate at UCLA from 1992-1994.  Mark was the founder and Music Director of the Long Beach Chorale and Chamber Orchestra from 1988-2002.  He is now living in Kuna, Big Island, Hawaii where he is a freediver, commercial fisherman, and father.  He is also Music Director of the Kona Music Society Chorus and Orchestra.  Mark is married to Lisa Barville, MD, and has two children, Caleb, and Micah.  Mark.

Christopher W. Brown, BM, Business, Saxophone ('83). The first ten years after graduation, Chris sold pianos and played saxophone in various jazz bands.  He went on to become a manufacturer's representative and now owns his own company, C.W. Brown & Associates, selling manufacturing components. Chris is married, has four children, and lives in Brentwood, California.  Chris.

Arthur Coleman, BM, Music Education (`81).  Arthur Coleman was one of five educators named California Teacher of the Year for 2004, as well as being named San Joaquin County Teacher of the Year. Art has been a music educator for 23 years, and has accumulated numerous honors, including three local teacher-of-the-year awards, numerous education-related trophies, and is an inductee at the Black Athletic Hall of Fame.  For 12 years, Art was the band director at Hamilton Middle School in Stockton, California.  He is currently the band director at Cesar Chavez High School in Stockton, California.

Mike Fitts, BA, Music Education, Percussion ('80).  I have been living outside lovely Boulder Colorado for the past 18 years.  Putting to use those great skills learned from teaching and performing as I have been lecturing worldwide on the design of advanced electronic technology substrates.  I also have been working extensively as a marketing/business development professional.  Currently I work for an electronic manufacturing and engineering company doing business development focusing on the defense/security/aerospace sector.  Unfortunately I don't play near as much as I use to.  Look forward to hearing from old friends.   Mike

Allan Gilbert, BM, Clarinet Performance ('80) and Diane (Anderson) Gilbert, BM, Viola Performance ('86) live in Simi Valley, Ca. with their two beautiful children, Sara and Jake.  Allan writes piano music for children, and recently had some of his works performed and published, including some written while at Pacific. Diane is a busy freelance violist in the L.A. area.  She is Assistant Principal Viola of the New West Symphony, Principal Viola of the Santa Barbara Opera, and Assistant Principal Viola of the Santa Barbara Symphony.  Diane also performs with the Santa Barbara Chamber Orchestra, California Philharmonic, Pasadena Pops Orchestra, and the Pasadena Symphony.  She regularly performs with the national Broadway tours that come to the Ahmanson Theatre in L.A. The Gilberts celebrated their twentieth wedding anniversary in January 2005.

Dave Hibbert, BM, ('78),  MM, Music Education, ('89).  Dave landed his first teaching position in the school district where he grew up, Santa Clara Unified, in the San Francisco bay area.  After serving three secondary schools and six elementary schools in his first 5 years, he took a leave of absence and returned to Pacific to pursue a Masters Degree in Music Education.  He financed this endeavour by serving as Head Resident at John Ballantyne Hall for a year. Upon returning to Santa Clara, he decided he enjoyed the itinerent "wherever I'm needed" position and has taught music there ever since!  In 1985, he met Gayla Bordson, a Stockton teacher.  They married a year later and Gayla now teaches English at Lynbrook High School in San Jose.  The couple live in Cupertino with their 9 year old son James and pray daily for their son Brandon serving in the US Army.  Dave also serves as the Director Of Choral Music at Peninsula Bible Church of Cupertino.   Dave

John Loken, BM, Management, Piano/Tenor ('88).  After 18 years in the record business, I've gone back to school to get my MBA at UCLA's Anderson School.  I run a brand strategy agency and am moving into venture capital.  I live in South Pasadena, CA with my wife and two kids.    John

Elizabeth MacDougall, BM, Piano Performance ('81).  Elizabeth is beginning her 23rd year of adjunct class piano teaching at Mendocino College (CA).  In 1983, she finished her Masters in Piano Performance and Pedagogy and since then has been ever grateful for all she learned at the Conservatory.  This spring she'll be playing the Poulenc Double Piano Concerto with the Ukiah Symphony Orchestra (CA) where she is a regular soloist and orchestral musician.    Elizabeth

Ed Powell, BM, Music Education, Trumpet ('89) & Kristin Wingard, BM, Music Education, Flute ('89). Ed and Kristin currently live in Tacoma, WA.  Kristin is teaching third grade for Natches Trail Elementary School. Ed is the Director of Bands and Music Professor at Pacific Lutheran University.  They have a daughter, Emily and are glad to be back on the West Coast after leaving California in 1993.  Ed and Kristin would love to hear from some of their class mates as they have lost touch many who meant a great deal to them.  Kristin & Ed .

Patrick Rainey, BM, Music Management, Guitar ('86).  Patrick worked for 10 years as vice president of a music production company in charge of the South Pacific region.  He is currently the Northern California Regional Sales Manager for a construction supply manufacturer.  Patrick continues to play gigs in the Stockton/Sacramento area with his two-piece soft rock group, "Amarillo."  Sadly, Patrick's wife Toni passed away in November of 2003 after a long illness.  Presently, he lives in Elk Grove, California with his son, Ryan.

Michelle (Rodriguez) Stevens, BA, Music Therapy (`89).  Michelle is currently working as a social worker for teen pregnancy prevention in San Joaquin County and mother to an amazing child.  Michelle.

Bruce Southhard, BM,  Music Education, Tenor ('88).  I am graduating in May 2008 with a DMA in Choral Conducting from North Dakota State University.  Next fall, I will begin my first collegiate position as Assistant Professor of Choral/Vocal Music at Dickinson State University in North Dakota.   Bruce

John C. Tucker, BA, Music Therapy, Guitar ('84).  John Tucker lives in Phoenix, AZ where he works as a community relations specialist for the Arizona Department of Transportation.  He is married and has two daughters.  Tucker keeps his hand in music by singing and playing guitar in church groups and writing music for video productions and “just for fun.”   John

Cynthia (Wilson) Wood attended Pacific from 1979-1982 and then transferred to UCLA.  She is married to Matthew Wood and has two daughters.  After the birth of her daughters, Cynthia enrolled at the University of California, Irvine, where she received a BM in Flute Performance (1996).  She has been a private music teacher (flute and beginning piano), performed with the Aliso Viejo Symphony (now the South Coast Symphony Orchestra) for 3 years, and is currently a freelance professional flutist.  Cynthia. 949.586.7739 Home address: 37 Egret Lane, Aliso Viejo, CA 92656

Berta (Yee) Hickox, BM, Music Education, Flute ('85). Berta married Bob Hickox on June 30, 2007. They have two sons and two daughters between them, and live in Lewisburg, PA. She is currently teaching elementary general music in Halifax, PA, and teaches Kodaly pedagogy at James Madison University in the summers. Berta
