Pacific team takes championship in Trivia Bee

Apr 30, 2018

Three members of the University of the Pacific family proved to be trivia experts last week, taking home the championship in the San Joaquin County Library and Literacy Foundation's annual Trivia Bee. This marked the 27th year for the foundation's annual fundraiser, which was held on April 22 at the Stockton Arena. Proceeds support literacy programs in the Stockton-San Joaquin County Public Library system.

Pacific's team — taking the moniker "Bee-Yond Our Gates" — comprised Mike Wurtz, assistant professor and Head of Holt-Atherton Special Collections, Robin Imhof, associate professor and reference librarian, and Chris Goff, professor of mathematics in the College of the Pacific. They defeated more than 25 other teams to claim the championship — and the event's coveted Bee bobblehead dolls.

The theme for the contest was "California Dreaming" with all questions pertaining to California history, politics, entertainment, sports, literature, etc. They answered 26 of 30 one-point questions in the first round and 27 of 30 two-point questions in the second round to finish tied for first place with 80 points. They went on to a sudden-death playoff and answered the three questions correctly to break the tie and take first place.

Congratulations to Mike, Robin and Chris!
