The Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences is pleased to announce that the doctor of audiology (AuD) program has been awarded maximum possible accreditation status of 10 years by the Accreditation Commission for Audiology Education (ACAE).

"We are absolutely thrilled to be the first accelerated doctor of audiology program in the country to be accredited by ACAE," said Rupa Balachandran, PhD, associate professor and chair of the Department of Audiology. "It reflects the commitment of the faculty and staff for training doctor of audiology students who can provide the highest quality of care to their patients."

The ACAE board of directors voted unanimously to award the program accreditation status through to April 30, 2028.

"I am very proud of the faculty, staff and students who have earned the impressive achievement of obtaining a full 10-year accreditation," said Dean Phillip R. Oppenheimer, PharmD. "The leadership of Rupa Balachandran has been instrumental in the success of the program. I would also like to acknowledge Robert Hanyak, the founding chair. It was because of his vision and nurturing support that this program became a reality."

Launched in 2015, Pacific's AuD program is located on the San Francisco Campus and is the first accelerated AuD program in California. A key component of the accreditation was the depth and breadth of the external clinical sites that the program has established. Also highlighting the strength of the program was the 100 percent passage rate of the Praxis exam by the program's 17 students.

The inaugural graduating class will have their degrees conferred on May 19 at the Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Commencement ceremony in the Alex G. Spanos Center.
