Harris Lecture Series Fund

The J. William Harris Lecture series is made possible through the generosity of the founding dean of University of the Pacific's School of Education. Harris was a, "scholar, inspirational teacher, educator, and staunch personal friend of generations of students." When the School of Education was formed in 1924, he was officially named dean and served for more than twenty years in that position. J. William Harris' pioneering leadership helped to nurture the School of Education into the position of prominence it enjoys today. In 1944, Harris was named Dean Emeritus and continued to serve the university for a total of 45 years (1910-1955).

Since 1963, the School of Education has been able to provide the community-at-large with opportunities to hear from renowned speakers on a broad array of education-related topics. University staff, faculty, administration, and students are invited to send proposals J.W. Harris Lecture Series. The faculty Commencement, Awards and Lecture Series committee will review applications and recommend proposal funding. The Dean of the Benerd School of Education will review the committee's recommendations and provide final approval of all funded proposals.
