Reorganization and Integration of International Operations at Pacific

Office of the ProvostOct 25, 2017

One of the main goals of Pacific's Strategic Enrollment Plan is to increase international student enrollment. In preparation for this increase and to ensure that we are well positioned to serve international students, Provost and Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs Maria Pallavicini requested a review of our international administrative operations - International Programs and Services (IPS) and UOP International (UOPI; our partnership with Shorelight Education) - that provide services for both domestic and international students, as well as visiting international scholars and our own faculty.

The review identified a number of opportunities for improvement. The Provost then met with stakeholders engaged in the reviews to discuss the results and determine the next steps to ensure we provide excellent service for international students as well as our faculty:

  • First, that IPS and UOPI must work in an integrated, coordinated manner under centralized leadership to be most effective.
  • Second, that a coordinated effort by faculty, administration and staff must be undertaken to propose and implement a multidimensional global learning environment at Pacific.

To implement these steps, Provost Pallavicini has reorganized and consolidated the administrative leadership and operations of international services under the leadership of Patricia Campbell, Dean of University College, effective October 1, 2017.

International Programs and Services (under Director Ryan Griffith) will now report to Dean Campbell, as will Greg Rohlf, Academic Chair for UOP International.

Dean Campbell will assess the need for any further organizational changes to fulfill our goal of providing excellent support for students and faculty across our three campuses - one of the desired outcomes of building a unified university, as described in our refreshed strategic plan, Pacific 2020R.
