  Interim athletic director appointed

Wes Yourth, associate director of athletics for internal affairs, has agreed to serve as interim athletic director while a national search is conducted to replace Director of Athletics Ted Leland, who will retire Oct. 23. Yourth was hired in 2007 as director of baseball operations and was promoted to supervisor of athletic facilities and operations in 2010. He was promoted to associate director of athletics for capital projects and facility operations in 2016, and currently serves as associate director of athletics for internal affairs, with oversight of facilities and event management and business operations. Yourth will work closely with Leland in the coming weeks to ensure a smooth transition for our athletes and athletic programs.

Leland announced in August his plans to retire. A two-time Pacific graduate, Leland is credited with reinvigorating annual giving to the athletics programs, spearheading Pacific's return to the West Coast Conference, and leading the effort to improve and enhance athletic performance and the quality of athletic facilities at Pacific. President's chief of staff appointed
Jonathan LattaJonathan Latta, assistant dean of the Conservatory of Music and lecturer in percussion since 2014, was appointed as the chief of staff in the Office of the President. He began the new position effective Sept. 7. To facilitate a smooth transition from his position as assistant dean and teaching obligations for the fall semester, Latta will be phasing in his administrative duties over the month of September and will become full time in the President's Office once classes are finished later this fall.


Edith Sparks begins tenure as vice provost for undergraduate education
Edith SparksEdith Sparks
 began her new position as vice provost for undergraduate education on Aug.14. This position was developed by reframing and extending the assistant provost for Student Academic Achievement position. In her new role, Sparks will provide leadership across the institution to ensure Pacific provides outstanding undergraduate student support services, and will be responsible for a comprehensive general education program that integrates academic and co-curricular experiences. Read more... 

Academic Division

Candice Adams is a new assistant director of admission in the Office of Admission.

Eileen Camfield was promoted to director of University Writing in University Writing Programs.

David Daly is a new assistant director of admission in the Office of Admission.

Cynthia Eakin began a one-year reappointment as interim associate dean for the Eberhardt School of Business as of July 1. In this role, she will continue her focus on faculty assignments, mentoring, deploying academic resources and program leadership. She also will lead the AACSB documentation efforts, identify appropriate curricular and programmatic adjustments, and continue development of Eberhardt's expertise in teaching. Eakin joined the Eberhardt School of Business faculty in 1996 and has served as associate dean for graduate programs since 2009.

Alexis Gonzales is a new administrative assistant II in the Office of Professional Programs in the Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.

Jeremy Hanlon has been hired full-time as innovation spaces coordinator, which includes the new maker space The Cube, in the University Library.

Eric Romo is a new administrative assistant II in the Office of the Registrar.

Development and Alumni Relations

Scott Biedermann, who has served as executive director of corporate and foundation relations since 2014, was promoted to associate vice president for Development. 

Kevin Redick is the new assistant director of major gifts for College of the Pacific.  

Business and Finance

Mariana Arias is a new benefits representative in Human Resources.

Matthew Berry is a new mail clerk in Mail Services.

Jenkins Albert Conde was promoted to custodian group II in Support Services.

Roberta Martoza, director of risk management in Enterprise Risk Management, has been asked by President Pam Eibeck to be accountable for maintaining the university policies website. Martoza and Senior Analyst for Research and Policy Development Robin Dionne will work directly with the Office of the General Council, Pacific Technology, the Office of Marketing and Communications and others across the university to ensure the policy website reflects the latest version of all university policies. Joshua Powell is a new senior payroll specialist in the Office of the Controller.

Jacob Williams was promoted to groundskeeper III in Support Services.  

President's Division

Keith Michaud was promoted to media relations manager in the Office of Marketing and Communications. 

Student Life

Cami Allard, Daniel Gautreau and Wesley Kayne are new doctoral psychology interns in Counseling Services.

Laura Steed was promoted to associate university chaplain in the University Chaplain's Office.

Pacific Technology

Anthony Carrero was promoted to enterprise systems manager.   


Charles Blizinski is a new athletics performance intern in Athletics Performance.

Kelly Cartner is a new athletics media relations intern.

Manuel DeAlba is a new assistant director of athletic training.

Ryan Garko is the new head coach for men's baseball. Garko previously was the manager of the Tulsa Drillers, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers since September of 2015, managing players in the Dodgers system such as Cody Bellinger, Andrew Toles, Grant Dayton and Brock Stewart.

Edison Gonzalez is a new assistant coach for men's soccer.

Rebecca Scharmann is the new director of athletic media relations.

Sydney Shelton is the new manager for water polo operations.

Gareth Terrett is a new assistant coach for women's field hockey.
