Brisk sales expected for University of the Pacific’s Sept. 12 Advancing Women’s LeadershipTickets go on sale Tuesday morning at University of the Pacific for the latest installment of an inspirational leadership forum intended to inspire and empower young and old alike.
The Advancing Women's Leadership forum on Sept. 12 at Alex G. Spanos Center at University of the Pacific in Stockton this year features Facebook COO and best-selling author Sheryl Sandberg as the headliner. Sandberg, considered one of the most influential people in the world, is committed to inspiring women in their personal lives and leadership roles.
Bank of America California President Janet W. Lamkin, a Stockton native, is another dynamic business leader and will be one of the opening speakers. Jade Simmons, an energizing and riveting pianist called "classical music's No. 1 maverick," will perform and present an inspirational message to challenge attendees to think, do and be bigger in their lives.
Doors open at 7:30 a.m. Sept. 12 with the program beginning shortly after.
Past Advancing Women's Leadership forum speakers have included Condoleezza Rice, the former U.S. secretary of state, in 2013 and U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Sonia Sotomayor in 2015. More than $150,000 of the proceeds from the 2015 event were used to establish a scholarship at University of the Pacific in honor of Sotomayor, which was matched by The Powell Fund. The scholarship will go to students who exemplify academic success and service to their communities.
The Advancing Women's Leadership forums were founded by a group of local women leaders - Dea Spanos-Berberian, Kristen Birtwhistle, Connie Callahan, Kathleen Lagorio Janssen, and Cyril Seligman. It serves as a collaborative community effort to promote women's leadership throughout San Joaquin County by providing information, ideas and resources on women's leadership; educating local organizations on the economic and civic impact of women; encouraging future leaders by providing education and training opportunities; and showcasing women's leadership.
