Jun 26, 2017

The Sacramento Campus honored Casandra Fernandez, McGeorge School of Law's director of campus events and alumni activities, with the 2017 Cavanaugh Distinguished Service Award during its spring party on May 31. The annual award, endowed by former Vice President for Business and Finance Pat Cavanaugh and his wife, Janita, recognizes staff members from the Sacramento, San Francisco and Stockton campuses each year for their exceptional accomplishments, leadership, innovation and service to the university community or other areas of excellence.

Fernandez has been working in the McGeorge School of Law since 2007. She oversees and facilitates the law school's event programming and ensures that the programming builds McGeorge's reputation within the regional and national markets. Nominees described her as "a true Ambassador on the McGeorge/Sacramento Campus." Colleagues say she "personifies innovation" and "anticipates the needs of those with whom she interacts, and has a keen ability to find a solution to the most complex and thorny problems." She can be relied upon to "provide outstanding service" and is "the-go-to staff member who makes everything work." Nominees also cited her strong organizational skills, creativity and warmth.
