Speeding up the hiring processes

The recent staff climate survey and our exit interviews reveal our staff deeply values the opportunity to grow within the university and earn promotions. Human Resources encourages managers to advance our employees when it fits within a particular position.

Hiring managers of non-union staff previously had to post jobs internally for a minimum of five days before posting and advertising externally. Effective immediately, managers may choose to post internally or launch an external posting to which internal applicants can also apply. This flexibility will speed up our search process.    

When originating the job posting and search approval in PeopleAdmin, please include internal or external posting in the comments section.  

There are many advantages to promoting and hiring from within the university:

  • We demonstrate that we value our colleagues across campus
  • Training time and learning curves are often shorter
  • We can fill positions much quicker
  • We can save in advertising costs and lost productivity
  • Morale improves institutionally when we see promotions from within
