Pacific Values Initiative
About the initiative and the President’s charge
The university’s values drive the desired culture we seek on our campuses. The institution has to be intentional about how our values are declared, communicated, and promoted. To that end, we are launching a “Values Initiative” to be led by a special Values Steering Committee. The charge to the Steering Committee will encompass the following key goals:
- Understand the root cause(s) underlying the gap between perception and reality as it relates to the institution’s values
- Define a set of desired values, with input from all levels of the institution, and operationalize what they mean and how they translate into specific behaviors
- Inculcate broadly and deeply: why this matters, what the core values are, and how they are lived out day-to-day
The Values Steering Committee will design and implement a data collection process, analyze the data and generate a set of recommendations regarding the institution’s core values and their operational definitions. Once the values and definitions are endorsed by the cabinet and Board of Regents, a communications strategy, implementation and assessment plan will follow.
