What is Cybersecurity?

Cybersecurity is a growing field of critical importance to modern society. News reports surface daily with the latest cyber crimes and threats: corporate and government espionage, banking and financial fraud, identity theft, and more.  These threats affect businesses, governments, and private citizens alike.

As a result of a growing awareness of the vulnerabilities of our modern, computer-dependent society, cybersecurity has become a priority area for businesses and government agencies across the country. That has translated into a field with high demand for qualified professionals. According to EAB and Burning Glass Labor/InsightTM, job postings for master's level cybersecurity experts has increased by 88% at the local level and 60% at the state level from 2013 to 2016. Employer demand for cybersecurity professionals is distributed across a variety of local and state industries, including technology, finance, and healthcare. Bright futures are ahead for cybersecurity specialists.
