About SUCCESS TRiO
SUCCESS at the University of the Pacific is funded by a Student Support Services grant from the Federal government. TRIO Programs provide educational opportunity for low-income and disabled Americans to help students overcome class, social, academic and cultural barriers to higher education.
There are many TRIO programs, one of which is Student Support Services. Other TRIO programs include Talent Search, Upward Bound, Educational Opportunity Centers and Ronald McNair Postgraduate Achievement Programs. The U.S. Department of Education has funded TRIO programs that currently serve over 730,000 Americans. In 1965, Congress established a series of programs to help low-income Americans enter college and graduate to break cycles of poverty. Since then, an estimated two million students have graduated from college with the assistance and support of TRIO programs. These programs are funded under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965. As mandated by Congress, two-thirds of the students served must come from families with incomes under $28,000, where neither parent graduated from college.
SUCCESS is a U.S. Department of Education grant funded program that serves 200 eligible students at Pacific each year.
