MJC Engineering and Computer Science Pipeline Program

Modesto Junior College and University of the Pacific are collaborating to offer students the opportunity to complete their lower division requirements at MJC, and transition seamlessly into Pacific's Bachelor of Science in Engineering Degree program.  Pacific's guaranteed Cooperative Education Program (paid internships) further assists students with substantial income, practical experience, and job placement.

Program Features

Guaranteed admission:  Pacific offers the following guaranteed admission agreement to all participants (contingent upon a satisfactory admissions application) under the following conditions:

  • Engineering students must have completed Calculus III (MATH 173) or Ordinary Differential Equations (MATH 174), with minimum grades of a C in each of their math courses; and they must have a minimum 2.75 Modesto Junior College GPA.
  • Computer Science students must have completed Calculus I (MATH 171), Problem Solving & Prog I (CSCI 271) and Problem Solving & Prog II (CSCI 272) with minimum grades of C's for each of these three courses; and they must have a minimum 2.75 MJC GPA.

What if you don't want to transfer to Pacific, or you are not sure?  No problem.  You can participate in any or all parts of this program that appear helpful, regardless of your intentions of transitioning from MJC to Pacific.

Library services
Students in the program are welcome to utilize the Campus Library as much as they wish, including special group study rooms and the cube.

Pacific Parking:  Students may park in any "B" parking lots at Pacific weekdays after 5:00 pm, and anytime on the weekends.  Students may pick up guest passes in Burns Tower on Pacific Avenue for daytime visits.

Join student professional chapters at Pacific.  Pacific has many student chapters of national professional societies.  These clubs are fun, they expand your professional networks, and they expose you to information not normally disseminated in the classroom.  Delta students in this program are welcome to join and engage in these organizations.  If you would like more information, just contact the listed point of contact:

Supplemental academic advising:  Pacific will arrange for you to meet with our academic advisors to co-advise you on the best courses to be taking each semester, again, helping you to optimize your planning and progress through the entire degree process as expediently as possible.

Dean Steve Howell

"Pacific deeply values transfer students from community colleges.  Transfer students place directly into our upper division courses and have done very well at Pacific. Several valedictorians have come to us from a community college.  We are confident that the Modesto/Pacific pre-engineering and computer science program will create a smooth path and transition to an engineering or computer science degree from Pacific."   Steve Howell, Dean, University of the Pacific, School of Engineering & Computer Science
