Mary Lou Lackey Retirement

Mary Lou Lackey, vice president and secretary to the Board of Regents, will retire from the university on Dec. 31 after 13 years of service to the Pacific community.

President Pamela Eibeck invites the university community to celebrate and honor Lackey at a reception from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 14, in the Presidents Room on the Stockton Campus.

"An incredible leader, administrator and partner, Mary Lou has made highly significant contributions to Pacific that span critical areas from board management, to policy development, to sustainability," said Eibeck. "I am profoundly grateful for all she has accomplished. We will miss Mary Lou tremendously and wish her well on her richly deserved retirement."  

Lackey has served as the principal support for the university's appointed Board of Regents since January 2010. As vice president, she has also overseen legal affairs, sustainability, technology, institutional planning and the office of the ombuds. Her contributions have included the codification of university policies and launch of the university policy website; leading searches for key university leadership positions; acting as the cabinet liaison to the Staff Advisory Council; and active involvement on behalf of the university in the Sacramento community.  

Before coming to the Stockton Campus, Lackey served as executive assistant dean for administrative affairs at the McGeorge School of Law, where she managed nonacademic operations that included finance, buildings and grounds, information technology, human resources, security, food service and auxiliary enterprises. The team she assembled brought a new level of professionalism to the operations side of the school. Lackey was also a major contributor in strategy and development activities, and coordinated much of the school's outreach activities with the local community.  

As of Jan. 1, 2017, Kevin Mills, Pacific's general counsel, will become general counsel and secretary to the board. Mills has been working closely with Lackey to prepare for the transition. Janine Swanson, currently the board coordinator, will be promoted to assistant secretary to the Board of Regents, with enhanced support responsibilities.
