Advisory: Campus impact for American Heart Association Heart Walk Sept. 10

Aug 26, 2016

For the fourth year, University of the Pacific is hosting the site of the American Heart Association San Joaquin Heart Walk. The event will be held on Saturday, Sept. 10. Approximately 2,000 walkers participate each year.

The walk will begin and end in Parking Lot 2, adjacent to Kjeldsen Pool. Set-up will begin at 8 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 9, with the lot being closed after 8 p.m. on Sept. 8. Participants will begin arriving by 8 a.m. on Saturday, with the walk starting at 9 a.m. The parking lot is expected to be re-opened at about 12:30 p.m. after all equipment has been loaded and removed.

If you are driving near the campus on Saturday the 10th between 8 a.m. and noon, be aware of additional foot traffic as walkers travel along the route through the campus, on Pacific Avenue and neighboring residential areas.  Several areas of campus will also be included in the walk route. Beginning at the Kjeldsen Pool parking area, it travels north on Rudkin Way toward the levy, turns right through the parking lot and toward the DeRosa University Center. Walkers turn south at the DeRosa Center along the path and then east on McCaffrey walkway. At Chapel Lane and Atchley Way, the route heads along Atchley Way toward the Library where it turns east toward the Conservatory parking lot and exits the campus. After exiting the campus through Smith Gate, the route goes down Pacific Ave., through neighborhoods, back up Kensington Way, through Parking Lot 4 near the Vereschagin Alumni House and ends back at the pool area.

The annual Heart Walk is the association's premier fundraising event of the year. Thank you for your patience in handling any inconvenience this may cause. If you have any questions, contact Steve Whyte, university events manager at or Public Safety 209.946.2537.
