Education

Michelle Manghise is Associate Professor/Practitioner in the Music Management/Music Industry program in the Conservatory. She brings more than twenty-five years experience as a music publishing, international property rights administrator and music business executive to the program. Highlights of her industry experience include responsibility managing international copyright and royalty administration as well as income tracking projects for the UK and European territories while serving as Head of copyright and General Administration for EMI Music Publishing, Ltd. (London). She also opened the flagship New York office for Kobalt Music Publishing where she helped roll out the company's innovative web-based royalty and income tracking software with its online portal for songwriter and publisher clients. As Kobalt grew, her responsibilities included training and supervising teams in both London and New York City and acting as main international administrative liaison with foreign affiliates. Kobalt is now the world's largest independent music publisher.

In addition to her high level publishing and IP management experience, Professor Manghise brings significant additional related music industry knowledge and practice in marketing, product and artist management, recording, touring, and event management. She has a deep knowledge of international copyright laws and regulations and is familiar with domestic and foreign entertainment markets, standards and operations. During her time as a music publishing and rights executive, she personally acted as primary liaison to producers/songwriters such as Max Martin and Dr. Luke; recording artists including Beyoncé, Queen, Nirvana, Eminem, Kelly Clarkson, Gwen Stefani, Foo Fighters, Pink, Aerosmith, Toby Keith, Nine Inch Nails, Sting, Alicia Keys, Sia and Stevie Wonder; and was responsible for the managing the substantial song catalogs of The Beatles, Michael Jackson and Motown. During her tenure with EMI Music Publishing's US operation, prior to her move to the UK offices, she personally managed the firm's TV and film interests including 20th Century Fox, NBC-TV, New Line Cinema, Sony Pictures Entertainment, & Columbia/Tri-Star Pictures catalogs. She has experience in all aspects of the music for film and video business and also coordinated soundtrack releases and managed cue sheet production and distribution for EMI. 

Prior to joining Pacific, Ms. Manghise was an Assistant Teaching Professor for five years in the Music Industry program at Drexel University in Philadelphia, and Assistant Program Director for one year. While there she taught a wide range of classes and oversaw the program's student-led music enterprise, Mad Dragon Music. During her time advising the student group, they expanded their operations to include music publishing, music supervision and events management for both on-campus and off-campus clients. She also initiated the school's very successful LA-based summer internship program.

Professor Manghise brings a wide range of industry relationships and connections to Pacific and will be co-leading Pacific's own student-led music business, Pac Ave Records, as well as serving as a faculty advisor and mentor. In addition to her role as a music industry educator, in 2008 she founded Double M Management and Copyrights Controlled, a music industry consulting firm handling licensing, copyright and asset protection, and income tracking projects for record labels, music publishers, rights aggregators, artists and music users.
