A record producer and music curator with more than 30 years of music industry experience as well as a Billboard Jazz -charting recording artist, Nick Phillips has worked on hundreds of album releases-from new recording projects featuring jazz icons Kenny Barron, Bob Berg, Randy Brecker, Jon Hendricks, Marian McPartland, Chris Potter, Poncho Sanchez, and Kenny Werner, to historical collections and reissues spotlighting the timeless recordings of music legends Tony Bennett, Ray Charles, John Coltrane, Bill Evans, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Little Richard, Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald, Albert King, Thelonious Monk, Sonny Rollins, The Staple Singers,Sarah Vaughan, and countless others. Several Phillips-produced projects have garnered GRAMMY nominations, including albums by preeminent jazz vocal artists Karrin Allyson and Nnenna Freelon.

In 2016, Nick launched Zen & Tonic Music Consulting (zenandtonicmusic.com), providing music consulting services to recording artists and such esteemed music companies as iHeartRadio, Craft Recordings, Concord Music Group, Mack Avenue Records, and Blue Coast Records.

As an educator, he has conducted lectures, symposiums, workshops, and panel discussions around the country on such subjects as the music business, record label operations, record production, studio recording, music theory, and jazz for such institutions as University of the Pacific, The Brubeck Institute, Loyola University, University of South Florida, Los Medanos College, The Recording Academy, Jazz Education Network, Jazz Connect, JazzTimes, Jazz Composers Symposium, International Association for Jazz Education, West Coast Songwriters, and others.

Nick has served on the GRAMMY Foundation board and currently serves on the Board of Trustees for the Recording Academy (the GRAMMY organization) and on the Music Management Program Advisory Board at University of the Pacific.

He holds a Bachelor of Music degree (cum laude) in Music Management/Business from University of the Pacific and a Project Management Professional certification (PMP) from the Project Management Institute.

Nick is a Visiting Lecturer in Music Management and has taught the Indie Label Operations class. He consults regularly with Pacific's student led music company, Pac Ave Records.
