Greetings Colleagues,

Here are some faculty development events and other opportunities I'd like to share with you:

Spotlight 3 2015-2016 Advisor Winners
In the 2015-16 academic year, the Division of Student Life instituted a mechanism to recognize advisors of Registered Student Organizations (RSOs). Each month the Spotlight 3 program accepts nominations from any Pacifican for the following categories: Registered Student Organization (RSO) of the month, RSO member of the month, or RSO advisor for the month. Winners get $50 toward their organization's ASuop funds.

This past year the following faculty members were recognized as RSO advisors:

  • November: Ethel Nicdao, advisor for Sociological Society
  • March: Cecilia Ruvalcaba, advisor for Matsuri Japan Club
  • Advisor of the Year: Joel Lohr, from the Muslim Student Association

Please join me in thanking these faculty members for their dedication to our students and congratulating them on their recognition.

Please take a moment to consider if there is an aspect of faculty life (e.g., teaching, time management, academic life, work-life balance, etc.) in which you would be willing to mentor a new faculty member when we welcome them in August. I would like to provide each new faculty member with a mentor in an area they identify as a need, and we all know that it takes a network of mentors for mentoring to be most effective. If you are interested in being a new faculty mentor, please fill out this form.

"First Generation" Faculty Members Sought
Chris Goff, Assistant Provost for Diversity, and I and are looking for faculty members who were the first in their families to attend college as part of a new program to provide mentoring to first-generation students, and so that we also can provide professional development support to first-generation faculty members. If you are one of these faculty members and would like to be involved in this program, please fill out this web form. Please contact Chris Goff ( or me ( to learn more.

Faculty Retirement Reception Recap
On April 28, we celebrated our retiring faculty members at a reception hosted in conjunction with the Emeriti Society. All who attended had a lovely evening celebrating the work and achievements of Ash Brown, who attended along with members of his family. We heard from Professor Emeritus Robert Benedetti as he shared about Ash's time at Pacific and Professor Emeritus Bill Topp, who represented the Emeriti Society and welcomed Ash as their newest member.
