Gerry Pineda joined the Conservatory of Music as an adjunct professor of Jazz Studies in the fall of 2012. He has also been serving as an adjunct professor at California State University Sacramento since 2005.
Professor Pineda holds a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies and Master of Music in Double Bass Performance from California State University Sacramento. He has studied with Richard Topper (University of Cincinnati), Bill Rene (UCLA), Carl Stanley (CSUS) and Tom Derthick (CSUS).
As a bassist, Professor Pineda is an active participant in jazz and improvised music. He performs regularly with visiting and local artists. Pineda has performed with Geoff Keezar, Joe Farrell, Eddie Harris, Mark Levine, George Marsh, Roscoe Mitchell, Tim Reis, John Tchicai, Jessica Williams and Ernie Watts.
At Pacific, Professor Pineda directs jazz combos and teaches courses in jazz improvisation, jazz history, applied jazz studies, jazz seminar and jazz piano.
