Allen Brown
Education
Allen Brown has been teaching at the Conservatory of Music since 1981. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree in percussion performance from the University of Oregon, the Master of Music degree in percussion performance from Western Michigan University and has done doctoral work in percussion performance at the University of Illinois. He studied with John Bergamo, C.K. Ladzekpo, Ray Holman, Cliff Alexis, Michael Brucker, Michael Paradis, Ed Mann, Thomas Siwe, and Robert Tilles. Prior to Pacific, he held teaching positions at Concordia College, Moorhead State University, North Dakota State University, and Western State College in Colorado.
Professor Brown's performance resume includes all areas of percussion in symphonic, solo, chamber, jazz, and commercial settings. He has performed with Clark Terry, Sammy Nestico, Toni Tennile, Ed Mann, Diahann Carroll, and Vic Damone. In addition, he has performed with the San Joaquin Ballet and Opera Orchestras, Sacramento Philharmonic Orchestra, and Stockton Symphony Orchestra.
Mr. Brown has authored articles on percussion published in the NACWPI Journal, The Percussionist, Woodwind World, Brass and Percussion; has composed several works for percussion; and has numerous arrangements to his name.
At Pacific, he teaches applied percussion, percussion instruments class in music education, and is director of the percussion ensemble.
