Pacific School of ReligionOpportunity for Religious Studies majors at Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, CA

The Religious Studies Department has recently entered into an agreement with Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, CA, providing a flexible and relatively local opportunity for our majors looking to do a graduate degree in the field.

According to this agreement, Religious Studies majors at University of the Pacific, who complete the major requirements with a minimum GPA of 3.0, will be given preferred consideration for admission to Pacific School of Religion. The application fee will be waived for these students as a courtesy.

Furthermore, Religious Studies majors at University of the Pacific with junior or senior status who have a minimum GPA of 3.0 will have the opportunity to enroll in one course per semester at Pacific School of Religion (online or on-campus) in accordance with their pre-requisite policies by applying for Special Student Status.  The Special Student Application fee will be waived. Tuition for this course will be paid to Pacific School of Religion. This course may count toward the major in University of the Pacific. Approval will be made on a course by course basis. (Check with your advisor before enrolling.) Or, the course may count toward graduate work at Pacific School of Religion, if the student enrolls after receiving their undergraduate degree, and the course work falls within the allowed time limit for the Pacific School of Religion's program. (Note that credits used toward an undergraduate degree may not be applied to a master's degree, though advanced standing may be granted if appropriate.)

To get an idea of the opportunities at Pacific School of Religion, Rev. Dr. Leslie Carole Taylor, their assistant director of recruitment and admissions, offers the following description of their programs:

As Pacific School of Religion continues to prepare leaders for religious leadership in historic and emerging faith communities, we have strengthened our commitment to inspire, train, and support spiritually and theologically rooted leaders for social change. This has added to and strengthened the programs and academic resources we now offer.  Our programs include:

·         Master of Divinity

·         Master of Arts in Social Transformation

·         GTU Common Master of Arts

·         Master of Theological Studies

·         Certificate of Spirituality and Social Change (can be combined with a master's program)

·         Certificate of Sexuality and Religion (can be combined with a master's program)

·         Certificate of Theological Studies

We are home to two nationally known centers, providing thought leadership and programming:

·         Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies in Religion and Ministry

·         Ignite Institute @ PSR

And we are a member school of the Graduate Theological Union (GTU) - the largest theological consortium in the country.
