Benefits news: Migraine misery and your eyes

Jan 20, 2016

Migraine sufferers will tell you: unless you've had one, you just don't understand. It's the kind of pain that can bring a grown man to his knees in an instant and a mom hiding under the covers to avoid light.

Over 25 million Americans are chronic migraine victims. And 70% are adult women including famous people such as Loretta Lynn, Whoopi Goldberg and Carly Simon.

You might be surprised about the vision problems a migraine can cause. Often, a migraine sets off temporary light flashes, known as auras, or short-lived vision loss. That discomfort alone is reason enough to visit your family doctor. But, for the vision end of the migraine ordeal, the best help is from an eye care doctor. He or she can offer more specialized care and information.

If you or a loved one is a migraine sufferer, be sure to visit a VSP eye doctor regularly and explain the migraine symptoms that are experienced. For more information, go to
