Teaching Philosophy
"Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid." - Unknown
I understand that every student is different and each individual gains knowledge in many different ways. So I present the basic information in a simple manner, offering students the "nuts and bolts" of the material through a practice based narrative. Yet, I believe that each student should be accountable for the material they are taught.
As an educator, I plan to guide students in the process of self-directed learning (Andragogy). This is a process in which individuals take the initiative, with or without the help of others, in diagnosing their learning needs, formulating goals, identifying human and material resources for learning, choosing and implementing appropriate learning strategies and evaluating learning outcomes.
Simply, I believe that students should be INDEPENDENT, CRITICAL THINKERS! These are cognitive skills I will often ask students to perform. I encourage students to inquire into my course reading assignments and lectured information, in hopes that the student will ask for further clarification when needed. I will appropriately incorporate current and relevant evidence-based information in my classes.
