Benefits news: Embarrassing eye conditions

Oct 8, 2015

Don't ignore unsightly and sometimes embarrassing eye conditions.  Instead of ignoring conditions like irritated eyes, sties or blepharitis, be sure to find out everything you can about caring for your eyes at home — and learn when it is time to head for the eye doctor.  Most of the time, eye doctors can provide remedies and relief, so stop being embarrassed!

Here are the most common eye conditions:

1.       Sties — pimple like bump that forms along the edge of your eyelid

2.       Conjunctivitis — otherwise known as pink eye

3.       Blepharitis — inflammation of the eyelids

Reduce Your Risk

You can't always prevent eye infections, but you can reduce your risk by following a few simple rules:

  • Avoid touching your eyes, especially if your hands aren't clean.
  • Toss out old makeup, and replace makeup and applicators right away if you develop an eye infection.
  • Never share cosmetics with other people.
  • Wash off your eye makeup before going to bed.
  • Avoid cigarette smoke.
  • Always carefully clean and store your contacts.
