Benefits news: Brush up at the office

Sep 10, 2015

In alignment with September being Prevention Month, here is great advice from Delta Dentals SmileWay newsletter.

You brush in the morning and before bed, but what about after lunch? A study by the Academy of General Dentistry and Oral-B Laboratories found that while more than three-fourths of Americans eat two or more times per day at work, only 14% brush during work hours. And, since most people spend a third of each weekday in the office, those lapses in oral care can really add up.

Brushing on the job can definitely reduce bacteria.  Here are some tips for brushing at work:

  • Keep a toothbrush at your desk
  • Brush immediately after lunch
  • Dry your toothbrush after each use and store in a travel container
  • Replace your toothbrush at work every three months to avoid bacteria

Need another reason for a post-lunch brush? Studies have indicated that one of the least attractive traits of coworkers is bad breath.
