New Faculty Orientation and Support
We had a very successful new faculty orientation August 19-21. Thank you to all the faculty and staff who participated in welcoming and sharing information with Pacific's new faculty.
This year we will continue to support new faculty through monthly lunches and topics. The first is scheduled for September 10 and the topic is faculty mentoring. We will work through the process of mentor mapping and identify individual mentoring needs using the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity's process. It is a powerful tool that helps identify current mentoring needs and uses a review process to identify changing mentoring needs.
Pacific has many types of informal mentoring, but this year we are going to pilot a program to provide a more formal structure for new faculty mentoring. All new full-time faculty will be able to participate in this pilot. We will start with mentor mapping and then connect new faculty with mentors. This program will be assessed, reviewed and revised at the end of AY 2015-16 for potential broader adoption throughout the University. Click here for more information or call Berit Gundersen, Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs, at 209.946.3158.
To provide information and support for part-time faculty, there is a new self-enroll course being built in Canvas, found here. This course will continue to be updated with new information as more topics are identified to help part-time faculty.
An additional support for new part-time faculty is the ability to purchase campus parking passes for just one semester, at half the cost of the one-year passes: an "A" permit for the semester is just $100.00 and a "B" permit is just $50.00. These are available for purchase at the Finance Center.
To provide ongoing support for Pacific's Department Chairs and Program Directors, monthly topical lunches will begin September 24, 12:00 - 1:00 pm., in the Library Community Room. Please RSVP with Erika Greet, who may be contacted at 209.946.2551 or egreet@pacific.edu so we can order lunch accordingly.
