Personnel Updates

The Provost is pleased to announce the appointment of Jim Uchizono as Pacific's new Associate Provost of Research and Interim Dean of Graduate Studies. 

Uchizono is currently the associate dean for enrollment and pre-health affairs and a professor in the Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. He will replace Bhaskara Jasti, current Associate Provost of Research and Dean of Graduate Studies, who is stepping down September 1 to pursue his love of teaching and scholarship.  We are all grateful to Bhaskara for his leadership and service in the Graduate Division and Office of Sponsored Projects   Uchizono joined the School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in 2000 and has won numerous fellowships through the Thomas J. Long Foundation Pharmacy Faculty Fellowships program. In 2006, he was awarded the Eberhardt Teacher/Scholar Award, and in 2005 he received the Teacher of the Year Award from the School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. His research interests include the mathematical modeling of nonlinear, complex, biological/pharmacological time-varying cascades and mechanisms. Uchizono earned both a Pharm.D and a PhD in Biopharmaceutical Sciences and Pharmaceutical Chemistry from the University of California, San Francisco.

We congratulate Berit Gundersen on her advancement from Associate Provost Faculty Affairs and Educational Effectiveness to Vice Provost Faculty Affairs. The increased emphasis on faculty affairs reflects both the workload and importance of ensuring that faculty support, career development, mentoring and climate remain at the forefront of the Provost office administration. Please join us in congratulating Berit on her advancement.

Congratulations to Victoria Oliva on her promotion from Project Support Specialist to Executive Assistant to the Provost. In this position, she provides support for the Provost and general support for academic administration meetings, coordinates the Provost's calendar and executive searches. Victoria assumes this role following Scott Stehle's transition from the Provost's office to the position of Prospect Manager and Development Analyst in Advancement Services.
