Update from Academic Council Chair, Dr. Courtney Lehmann

Back to Issue 19 Table of Contents

This year the Academic Council has been busy with the implementation of the APA recommendations.  Several new programs have been approved, including the BS in Music Industry Studies, the MS in Analytics, the MS in Physician Assistant Studies, the Masters in Public Policy, the Masters in Public Administration, and the Doctor of Audiology.  Many landmark projects were completed this year, such as the Faculty Workload Study and Policy, the COACHE climate survey, and the Academic Plan.
The Shared Governance Committee, a joint committee involving Regents, faculty, and administrators, was created and has been meeting since October to develop a decision matrix to insure that shared governance processes are followed at Pacific.  The Regents are currently exploring ways to foster more interaction with faculty. We have also begun several important conversations involving the role of Non-Tenure Track faculty, Administrator/Faculty ratios, and championing the Liberal Arts.
As always, Academic Council sessions are open to all faculty and typically occur on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month.  It has been an honor to serve you this year; next year Rahim Khoie (Engineering) will take over as Chair and Sharmila King (COP-Economics) will serve as Chair Elect.

Thank you all for the support, feedback, and hard work that made this a successful year for shared governance at Pacific.
