Apr 14, 2015

Ron Ellison, a financial manager with broad experience in higher education, industry and government, has been appointed associate vice president for business and finance at University of the Pacific. His first day will be May 1.

"I am very pleased that Ron will be joining the Pacific family," said Ken Mullen, vice president for business and finance. "His extensive business leadership experience, budget and finance expertise, and understanding of the higher education sector will be valuable assets to our university."

In his new role, Ellison will work to enhance Pacific's financial management through strategic financial and business planning and leadership. Reporting to Mullen, he will oversee the budget, controller, payroll, student business services and purchasing departments.

" I look forward to the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead," Ellison said. "My wife and I already feel like welcome members of the Pacific family and the local community."

Ellison joins Pacific from the University of Washington Bothell campus, where he served as associate vice chancellor of budget, fiscal services and auxiliaries. He helped guide the transition from a rapid-growth phase to a sustaining business model. His higher education experience also includes serving as dean of administrative services at the Tillamook Bay Community College District in Oregon and as assistant university controller for the Hawai'i campus of Brigham Young University.

Before entering the higher education sector, Ellison worked for a decade as a financial analyst and accounting manager at The Boeing Company in Seattle. He also worked for two years as an auditor for the Defense Contract Audit Agency with the U.S. Department of Defense in Seattle.

Ellison has been active in civic organizations focused on youth and literacy. He is a former district commissioner of the Cascade Pacific Council of Boy Scouts of America, a former board chair of the Tillamook County Library District, a former secretary-treasurer of the Pacific Islands Children's Literacy Project, and an elementary school volunteer through the Start Making a Reader Today (SMART) program.

He earned a B.S. in accounting from Brigham Young University, Hawai'i, was certified as a Financial Manager through the Institute of Management Accountants, and has received advanced training in executive leadership, strategic management, business administration and financial management through the Western Association of College and University Business Officers.
