Pacific names associate vice president for external relations

Jan 12, 2015

Stacy McAfee, an academic leader with broad experience in higher education, has been appointed associate vice president for external relations at University of the Pacific. She assumes the post on Jan. 26.

"It is an honor to join University of the Pacific, a visionary institution committed to serving a diverse student body in three dynamic cities," McAfee said. "I am proud to build upon a strong foundation of leadership and partnership within our communities that has advanced social and economic outcomes. I look forward to deepening our relationships within the Stockton, Sacramento, and San Francisco communities as we advance shared goals."

McAfee will facilitate and strengthen ties between university leaders and corporate and community leaders and elected officials in Stockton, Sacramento and the Bay Area, helping to ensure that the university understands and is a constructive member of each region.

"I am so pleased to welcome Stacy to the Pacific family," said Pacific President Pamela A. Eibeck. "She understands how important it is for us to demonstrate shared values and responsibility to stakeholders within our communities. Her background, skills and passion will help to strengthen the support and engagement we will need as we develop into a more vibrant three-city university."

McAfee is charged with coordinating a comprehensive external relations strategy that engages university leaders with key civic and governmental leaders to effectively advocate for the institution in each city. She will report directly to the president and serve on her cabinet.

On behalf of the university, McAfee will build and maintain relationships with civic leaders, boards, elected and appointed officials, legislative staff and government agencies in Stockton, Sacramento and the Bay Area. She will help develop strategies to assist the university in accomplishing key goals that require cooperation or partnerships with local governments and agencies, community groups, companies, institutions and employers.

She will also work with the Association of Independent California Colleges & Universities to oversee and coordinate Pacific's efforts to support Cal Grants and influence state governmental activities that can impact the university.

McAfee comes to Pacific from University of Phoenix, where she is vice president of the Bay Area campus. Her previous leadership roles with University of Phoenix include regional director of academic affairs, director of academic affairs for the Sacramento Valley campus, and chair of undergraduate business and management at the Sacramento campus.  Her career has also included service as director of development for Campbell Montessori School in St. Charles, Missouri.

McAfee is member of the board of Joint Venture Silicon Valley and past chair of the group's economic development committee. She is a member of the Silicon Valley Leadership Group, San Francisco Chamber of Commerce, East Bay Economic Development Alliance for Business, and Sacramento Metro Chamber Education and Workforce Development Group. She is a frequent speaker at Bay Area conferences and summits.

McAfee holds a bachelor's degree from Iowa State University, an MBA from DePaul University and is completing a doctorate in education from Drexel University.
