University to block payment sites such as on wireless networks

Beginning December 2014, the University will begin blocking very specific payment sites on our wireless network to ensure our contractual compliance with Payment Card Industry (PCI) standards and to help safeguard financial information. One site that has been identified as part of an ongoing assessment is We will not be blocking communications over individual cellular or wired network connections.

In order to process credit card payments during the course of normal university business we are required to adhere to PCI standards. Part of these standards include the requirement that any credit card transactions occurring over wireless networks use enhanced encryption techniques to prevent data from getting into the wrong hands. Pacific's Compliance, Risk, Audit and Technology staff will work together to evaluate blocking sites that fail to meet industry standards for protecting information.
