Crossing Boundaries for Academic Excellence

December Cross-Unit Academic Planning Conversations

Welcome to the Provost's cross-unit conversations!  On this site, you can continue the conversations begun during the five cross-unit conversations in October and November.  All faculty, staff and students are welcome to join the conversation.

Our Approach:

"Crossing Boundaries for Academic Excellence" builds on the collaborative momentum that emerged from last year's Academic Planning and Alignment evaluation.  Out of that process, faculty began collaborating across disciplines to redesign programs, build new programs, provide new internship opportunities for students, and create joint scholarship projects.

The graphic below represents the emerging framework for the academic plan.  This framework is the iterative product of many layers of conversations so far with deans, faculty in each school, and other academic leaders at Pacific.  This graphic framework is the basis for the conversations the Provost hosted in October and November.

Academic Planning Framework

To orient you to the graphic (without the benefit of the oral description that participants get when they are introduced to it at the start of our conversations):

  • The glowing semi-circle in the middle is the central theme for academic planning:  "Crossing Boundaries for Academic Excellence."
  • The top three ovals refer to what we call BHAGs (Big Hairy Audacious Goals) that we want Pacific to achieve in the next 5 years
  • The bullet points in th arrow refer to strategies for achieving the BHAG's

Click here to see the ideas that have emerged from these conversations and to join in! All of the ideas voiced during the conversations have been transcribed and are available on the Academic Planning SharePoint. The site is interactive and allows everyone to continue the conversations through December 5th.  After that date, you will still be able to view the posted materials on the site through February 2015.
