Welcome to the College of the Pacific—the College of Arts, Letters and Sciences
As the liberal arts core of the University, the College of the Pacific is the oldest and largest academic unit, offering courses in the natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, and the fine and performing arts.
College of the Pacific Highlights
- Approximately 1,600 students major in the College and are taught by more than 150 faculty members.
- We have 18 academic departments plus several additional programs and areas of study.
- In all, 31 majors and 36 minors are offered by the College. Students can even self-design a major or minor and pursue joint interdisciplinary degrees with the other schools within the University.
- Graduate programs in certain disciplines lead to M.S., M.A. and Ph.D. degrees.
- The College collaborates closely with Pacific's other eight schools, and offers the foundational coursework for the University's professional programs.
Centers Enrich the College Experience
The College also houses the Jacoby Center for Public Service and Civic Leadership, the John Muir Center for environmental and historical studies, and the Pacific Humanities Center.
Highly Ranked Speech and Debate (Forensics) Team
Pacific's Speech and Debate team, led by Professor Steven Kalani Farias, regularly participates in national championship competition and has compiled enviable records at both the regional and national levels. Participants come from all different majors, from Political Science and Communication to Psychology and Graphic Design.
