Legislative Clinic Forensics Bill Approved by California Senate

A Pacific McGeorge Legislative and Public Policy Clinic bill has been approved by the California Senate during the first year of the clinic. SB-1058: Writ of habeas corpus was introduced by Senator Mark Leno. The bill description states "this bill would require, for purposes of these provisions, false evidence to include opinions of experts that have either been repudiated by the expert who originally provided the opinion at a hearing or trial or that have been undermined by later scientific research or technological advances.

The clinic students, led by Supervising Attorney Rex Frazier, '00, drafted the bill language and worked with Senator Leno. A video of the April 8, 2014 Senate Public Safety hearing on SB 1058 (Leno) is posted online, and the Washington Post featured an article on April 11, 2014 about the bill:
