Bachelor of Science
In addition to the standard requirements in the College for general education, diversity, fundamental skills and breadth, the Bachelor of Science in Economics also requires:
Core classes
- ECON 53 - Introductory Microeconomics
- ECON 55 - Introductory Macroeconomics
- MATH 37 or 39 or INTL 101
- ECON 101 - Intermediate Microeconomic Analysis
- ECON 103 - Intermediate Macroeconomic Analysis
- Econ 199: Economic analysis capstone
Choose one of the following three tracks:
A. Social Science Track
- ECON 111 - History of Economic Thought
- ECON 190 - Econometrics COMP 25 or COMP 51 MATH 33 or MATH 51, 53 and 55
- Four additional Economics electives numbered ECON 71 or higher (excluding 101L and including 191 only with departmental approval.)
Students, in conjunction with their advisors, will tailor their elective selection to best complement their other coursework and meet their educational goals. Suggested elective paths will be provided for students interested in pairing their study of Economics with other disciplines such as Math, Business, Physics, or Computer Science.
B. Applied Economics Track
- ECON 161 - Empirical Methods or ECON 190 - Econometrics
- COMP 25 or COMP 51
- MATH 33 or MATH 45 or MATH 51
- BUSI 31 - Financial Accounting
- BUSI 53 - Legal and Ethical Environment of Business
- Four additional Economics electives numbered ECON 71 or higher (excluding 101L and including 191 only with departmental approval.)
C. Mathematical Economics Track
- ECON 160 - Mathematical Economics
- ECON 190 - Econometrics
- MATH 51, 53 and 55 - Calculus I, II and III
- MATH 49 - Introduction to Abstract Math
- MATH 141 - Linear Algebra or MATH 145 - Applied Linear Algebra
- Three additional Economics electives numbered ECON 71 or higher (excluding 101L and including 191 only with departmental approval.) One additional Mathematics elective numbered above MATH 55 (excluding MATH 161, 162 and 166.)
