Summer building renovations and road work

Current renovations on Grace Covell Hall and the McCaffrey Center, as well as the removal of Stagg Stadium and roadwork on Atchley Way, are among many improvement projects going on this summer
May 29, 2014

While most students are off campus during the summer months, Physical Plant schedules extensive construction, renovation and upgrade projects to improve campus facilities and grounds.

Stagg Stadium Removal
Beginning June 3, contractors will begin pushing down the dirt from the berms in Amos Alonzo Stagg Stadium area to level the field. Trucks will begin hauling away excess dirt on June 10. Routes will vary based upon delivery destinations. Traffic impact from trucks moving on and off campus should be negligible at the G. Warren White entrance on Larry Heller Drive or on Pershing Avenue, but staff and faculty who normally enter or exit campus from Larry Heller Drive can avoid potential delays by using the Mendocino Avenue or Pacific Avenue entrances instead. Read more>>

Grace Covell Hall and McCaffrey Center
Work is currently underway on Grace Covell Hall and the McCaffrey Center apartments, including re-roofing, installing new fire sprinklers and alarms and other upgrades. For your safety, faculty, staff and students are encouraged touse designated access routes and avoid breaching construction barricades when entering or exiting open areas of these buildings. As work moves to different parts of the buildings, access points could change. Your patience and cooperation are greatly appreciated.

Atchley Way near Library
Beginning Wednesday, June 4, and continuing through Friday, June 13, an outside contractor will be repaving South Atchley Way between the Library and Southwest Hall and replacing 140 linear feet of the sidewalk and curb. The sidewalk on Atchley Way adjacent to the Library will be closed during this time. Pedestrians coming from Dave Brubeck Way will be able to use the sidewalk adjacent to Southwest Hall to enter the campus at Atchley Way.

A number of other projects will upgrade equipment, improve lighting in various locations, and continue improving ADA access in building interiors and entries throughout campus. Grounds projects include tree trimming and maintenance and expansion of Knoles field south to the parking lot.

For any questions or concerns about ongoing or upcoming projects, contact Scott Heaton at 209.946.2541 or Additional notices will be forthcoming as needed and as new work is scheduled.
