Alfred R. Golze Scholarship Winners

Wilson Zhu (CE 15), Deanne Zhao (CE'15), J.P. Loomis (CE'15, MSES'15), and Kevin Chan (CE'14) received Alfred R. Golze Scholarships from the ASCE Sacramento Section in recognition of their academic achievement and active involvement in the Pacific ASCE Student Chapter.

"I want to thank Mr. Owaidat, Mr, Polson, and the trustees and sponsors for awarding me the Golze Scholarship.  I would also like to thank Dr. Merry and Dr. Saviz for their letters of recommendation.  I am honored to be a recipient of the award.  The scholarship is one of the numerous opportunities and benefits that Pacific's ASCE student chapter has provided for me. My involvement with ASCE has not only helped me grow as a civil engineering student but it has also provided me with opportunities such as the Golze Scholarship, which will financially assist me in my pursuit of an M.S. degree in geotechnical engineering during the 2014-15 academic year."  - Kevin Chan

The scholarship was established in honor of Alfred R. Golze, past President of the ASCE Sacramento Section.  The scholarship is open to students from University of the Pacific, California State University, Chico, California State University, Sacramento and University of California, Davis.  Students are selected based on an application and two letters of recommendation from professors.

Alfred R. Golze was a highly accomplished civil engineer who maintained a strong interest in civil engineering students.  He held several high-ranking positions in the California Department of Water Resources and in the US Bureau of Reclamation in Washington, D.C.  He was one of the chief engineers on the Oroville Dam Project.  Golze also authored several books including "Reclamation in the US", and a student guide for aspiring civil engineers.  He was President of the Sacramento Section in 1969 and served on many National Committees.  Due to his engineering excellence and his support of ASCE, he was elected an Honorary Member of ASCE.  The Golze Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in May of 1988 "to further the education of civil engineering students for the benefit of our society."
