Community Engagement

The Generosity of the Pacific Community Touched Many Lives During the Past Holday Season

Through efforts across all three campuses, faculty, staff and students generosity during the holiday season reached out to help families in our communities.
Jan 24, 2014

A big "Thank You" to all among the Pacific family who organized, participated in and contributed cash, gifts and food to the many outreach efforts this holiday season. The results demonstrate the tremendous impact we as a community can make when we work together. Individuals and groups contributed toward or purchased multiple carloads of gifts, books, toys, grocery items, gift cards, coats and blankets and so much more. Though each gift may have been a small contribution, collectively we made the holiday season much brighter for many less fortunate in our community.

Magical Night of Giving
The Center for Community Involvement thanks everyone who purchased tickets for the Weberstown Mall Annual Magical Night of Giving on Nov. 24. CCI raised $205 in ticket sales, which will support their outreach efforts throughout the year.

Holiday ROAR
The Pacific community donated more than 2,000 books during the Holiday ROAR book drive, which culminated at the University holiday gathering on Dec. 4. These books will help Reach Out and Read San Joaquin promote literacy through encouraging parents to read to their young children.

Holiday Food Drives
The Pacific community contributed four turkeys, $415 and nine boxes of food to Catholic Charities, the Stockton Emergency Food Bank and the Pacific Food Pantry for families in need. Pacific McGeorge faculty and staff contributed $700 to the Sacramento Food Bank for holiday meals. The Dental school collected four barrels of food that were distributed to families in need through the San Francisco Food Bank.

Pacific's Community Outreach Committee and the Women's Center DAWN House and Youth & Family Services would like to thank the Pacific community for adopting 23 Families, which represents 23 adults and 67 children. Seven carloads of clothing, shoes, slippers, books, toys, household goods, wrapping paper and ribbon were delivered to the Women's Center for our families. In addition to the families adopted, two boxes of children's books, toys and clothing were delivered so that no child would go without on Christmas morning.

Toy Drives
Tiger Fans donated more than 250 toys at Men's and Women's Holiday Basketball Holiday Game Nights. The toys collected were distributed to children via the annual CHiPs for Kids event. The Dental School community collected 128 toys during Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry's Toys for Tots Drive.

In addition to these activities, people brought coats and blankets, wrote cards to those in military service abroad and offered volunteer service through St. Mary's Interfaith Dining Hall and other organizations. Thanks again to the Pacific family for your contribution and service to our community.
