Edward E. Whitacre Jr., the widely admired AT&T chief executive who came out of retirement to lead the turnaround of General Motors Co., was the featured speaker at the University's Commencement Ceremony.

The son and grandson of railroad workers, neither of whom had the opportunity to complete high school, Whitacre earned an engineering degree from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, in 1964. Here Whitacre received an honorary doctorate from University of the Pacific.

On Saturday, May 10, 2014, University of the Pacific recognized the Class of 2014 during the University's Commencement Ceremony. Friends, family, and faculty gathered to celebrate the graduates' accomplishments, and to recognize distinguished alumni and scholars. The day was a rich addition to the Pacific's long and storied history of honoring academic excellence.
