2019 Initiation Ceremony

The initiation ceremony featured speaker and honorary alumni member Matt de la Peña. De la Peña graduated from Pacific in 1996 with a degree in English.  He also earned a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from San Diego State University.  He is a New York Times best-selling author and a Newbery Medal-winning author, the first Latino to win the award.  His books include "Ball Don't Lie," "Mexican White Boy," "Last Stop on Market Street" and "Love." His book, "Miguel and the Grand Harmony," was released by Disney in both English and Spanish.

Language Immersion Scholarship:

The Chi Chapter of California honored student success and furthered language study and the liberal arts by awarding to Savannah Mae Robinson (Chemistry, Spanish) a Phi Beta Kappa Language Immersion Scholarship to study in Guatemala study in the summer of 2018. These scholarships promote the academic success of immersion program applicants who are likely to qualify for PBK.
