Sustainability Project Investment Fund (SPIF)
SPIF applications open in October of each year and close in February of the following year.
In fiscal year 2012, University of the Pacific established a fund to support projects that contribute to advancing sustainability focused practices and learning opportunities at Pacific. The Sustainability Project Investment Fund (SPIF) is currently available for projects at any Pacific campus (Stockton, Sacramento, San Francisco) through a competitive application process. Goals of the SPIF fund are to:
- Support activities that reduce resource use, energy consumption, and waste or pollution generation;
- Invest in projects that have measurable economic, social or environmental benefits; and
- Support sustainability-related education, engagement, and outreach activities consistent with the university mission.
Application Information
- SPIF is open to faculty, staff and students to apply.
- STUDENT, STAFF & FACULTY applications are accepted through February 16, 2022, with funding available beginning July 2022. Submission details are included on the Application Form.
- If all you have is an idea, we still want to hear from you! Complete the Project Eligibility Form and a Committee member will contact you to help answer questions about the process and project development.
- Applications are reviewed and selected by the Sustainability Committee.
Application Steps
- To apply, complete the following steps in order.
- Step 1: Complete the Project Eligibility Form by Sunday, January 16, 2022. Sustainability staff will respond and provide feedback on project eligibility, possible stakeholders, or similar projects. If your project is eligible, you will also receive the official application form (sample application for reference).
- Step 2: Discuss project with stakeholders and fill out application.
- Step 3: Complete the application form by Wednesday, February 16, 2022.
Project Ideas
- Build an app! For locating campus fruit trees, exchanging goods via virtual marketplace for Pacificans, engaging people in daily habits that support sustainability, etc.
- Responsible promo items- use funds to cover the difference between conventional give aways and a more environmentally responsible give aways, for example, t-shirts made from organic, U.S. grown cotton; reusable and recyclable mugs, utensils or straws.
