Career Development

Pacific provides students and alumni two vehicles to assist in your career development:

  1. The Career Resource Center (209-946-2361) is located in the McCaffrey Center - the professional staff is trained in the career development process and is available to help you with all your career needs.  Get help:

         Understanding all elements of the job search process
         Learning to write strong, tailored resumes and cover letters
         Developing effective job search strategies
         Practicing interviewing skills
         Identifying resources for employer research
         Negotiating compensation and benefits
         Graduate school planning and writing personal statements

  2. The Alumni Association Mentor Network, located online through TigerJobs, select the "Student Alumni Connection" tab - an excellent resource to be matched one-on-one with Pacific alumni working in your field of interest!

Job Search Techniques

  • Schedule an appointment to meet with a career counselor in the Career Resource Center
  • Use Tiger Jobs - this is your online job data base that hosts job postings with a variety of employers looking for Pacific students and alumni.  Resumes submitted through this job board usually are sent directly to the hiring managers who have partnered with the Career Resource Center.  Students can access Tiger Jobs through InsidePacific and alumni can request access by emailing Austin Ogan at
  • Join a professional association related to your field of study.  Attend meetings or conferences, use the membership directory to identify prospective employers, and check for an association job board.
  • Create a LinkedIn account and learn to effectively use this professional social networking tool.  See a Career Resource Counselor for help maximizing the use of this site.
  • Create a target list of companies in which you are particularly interested and bookmark their career pages.  Visit frequently for new opportunities.  Check with anyone in your network to identify individuals they may know within these organizations.
  • Creat a list of your contacts and a record of all activity related to those contacts, including dates for follow-up.
  • Prepare well for an interview by thoroughly researching the company and practicing your interviewing techniques.
