Career Resource Center
Career development is a process that begins before students arrive at Pacific and continues after they graduate. We plan to engage Pacific Humanities Scholars in this process during their first weeks at Pacific. We will meet to help assess students' current state of career preparedness and help them establish meaningful professional goals.
The Career Resource Center at Pacific is prepared to support the Pacific Humanities Scholars program and recommends the following plan to be tailored to students' needs.
Year One: ENVISION
Meet with a career counselor to establish a personalized three-year plan and identify interests and strengths. Among other activities, students will be encouraged to:
- Become familiar with Tiger Jobs
- Join a campus organization
- Meet with a career counselor to create a resume
- Develop a LinkedIn profile
- Begin the search for a summer internship
Year Two: FOCUS
Pacific Humanities Scholars will choose from various recommended steps to continue to progress in their career development. Possible actions include:
- Reflecting on summer experience and meeting with a career counselor for guidance on including that experience on the resume
- Learning professional networking skills by attending a workshop or visiting a career counselor
- Identifying individuals working in positions of interest and arranging informational interviews
- Using Tiger Jobs to find a mentor, establish a connection and meet periodically
- Attending "Meet Your Future" mock interview program and panel presentations
Year Three: SUCCEED
At this point, students will be asked to reflect on study abroad experience and any leadership experiences acquired there, and meet with a career counselor to prepare or enhance their resume or CV. Steps may include:
- Taking Career Search Essentials, Co-op 188 or meeting with a career counselor to prepare a master draft of an updated resume
- Developing a core cover letter that can be modified based on each position
- Continuing to develop networking skills and professional connections
- Attending Graduate School Planning Day
- Attending the Career & Internship Fair
