New San Francisco Campus Announcement
To the University Community:
Today, we celebrate a major milestone in Pacific's development as a three-city University. We are the proud new owners of 155 Fifth Street, a seven-story office building in San Francisco's exciting SoMa neighborhood. Our new campus in San Francisco will house the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry as well as other future programs offered by our schools and colleges.
The 395,000 square-foot facility will allow our dental school to continue to adapt to changing technology in dental education, provide flexible space for modern learning environments, and offer superior clinic services to the 10,000 patients it treats each year. There will also be 15,000 square-feet of space for Pacific to offer other programs from our other schools, advancing our three-city University vision. Two floors of the building will be leased to earn revenue for the project.
The former bank facility will be completely redesigned and improved over the next two years, and we expect to open it in mid-2014. You can read the University's full announcement here.
I thank and congratulate the San Francisco Campus Steering Committee, which has worked extremely hard and done outstanding work to bring us to this successful outcome. Special thanks go to Provost Maria Pallavicini, Vice President Pat Cavanaugh, Dean Pat Ferrillo, Director of Planning Roy Bergstrom, and to Regent Jim Mair, who worked tirelessly to help us with this project.
I also want to recognize the wonderful business partners who helped us identify the site, envision what we could accomplish there, and close the deal: TMG Partners, the San Francisco office of Grubb & Ellis, Downey Brand Attorneys, and Nova Partners. I thank the building's previous owner, Richard Lundquist, president of Continental Development Corporation. Richard's company built 155 Fifth Street in 1973 and still operates the Intercontinental Hotel next door to our new facility. He will be a valuable and collaborative neighbor.
Meanwhile, our architects and internal planning team have been developing the plans for the new building and we expect to begin construction this winter. The design and construction team includes SmithGroup, Inc. (architect), Plant Construction Company (general contractor), and: Nova Partners, Inc. (project manager). You can see the drawings here.
The Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry will be the primary occupant of the building, so Dean Ferrillo will communicate further details for dental students, faculty and staff. Provost Pallavicini will lead the exciting discussions on how best to use the 15,000+ square-feet of space available to the rest of the University.
I look forward to watching our new building take shape, and to planning Pacific's exciting new University presence in San Francisco.
Best regards,
Pamela A. Eibeck
President
