Mark Plovnick

Portrait of Mark PlovnickMark Plovnick is the Director of Economic Development and Professor of Management at the University of the Pacific. Prior to his current appointment, Mark served as Dean of the Eberhardt School of Business at the University 1989-2006.

Mark has undergraduate degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Economics from Union College in Schenectady, New York, and a master’s degree and doctorate in management from M.I.T.’s Sloan School of Management, where he also was an instructor for four years. Before coming to the University of the Pacific, Mark spent twelve years on the faculty of the Graduate School of Management at Clark University where he also served as Department Chairman, MBA Program Director, and Associate Dean.

Mark has consulted to a variety of organizations in business, government, health care, education, and other fields. Clients include Proctor and Gamble, the United States Navy, Aetna Life and Casualty, Dow Chemical, General Electric, Ford, Shell Oil, Goodyear, and many others. He has authored or co-authored five books and numerous articles in the areas of team building, career development, organization development, health care management, labor relations, and professional education.

Mark is active in community affairs, having served as a member of the San Joaquin County Civil Service Commission, the San Joaquin County Council of Governments Blueprint Leadership Group, the Mayor’s Economic Development Task Force for Stockton, the City of Stockton General Plan Action Team, the San Joaquin County Airport Commission and the City's Neighborhood Renaissance Program. He is Chairman of the Board of the San Joaquin Angels, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Bank of Agriculture and Commerce, the San Joaquin County Public Facilities Financing Corporation, the San Joaquin County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Goodwill Industries, the Stockton Rotary Endowment, the Children's Home of Stockton Foundation and the Editorial Board of Comstock's magazine. He also has been a director of United Way, Junior Achievement, Boy Scouts of America, the Greater Stockton Chamber of Commerce, the Northern California World Trade Center, the Stockton Symphony, and the Art Institute of Boston. Mark is also a past President of the Western Association of Collegiate Schools of Business.
