The Music Education program develops teaching skills with a hands-on approach to music learning. We work closely with area schools and arts organizations to help students expand their musicianship, confidence, and perspective. Through integrated fieldwork as well as classes including technique and conducting, our students gain the experience necessary to excel in a variety of music education settings. We build on the academically challenging, performance-based core curriculum to address individual needs and desires.
Undergraduates may obtain a Bachelor of Music degree and California teaching credential within four years, including substantive fieldwork and student teaching.
Graduate students expand on their music experiences to gain both depth and breadth in their musicianship, pedagogical approaches, and research skills. The Master of Music program includes thesis and seminar options, and may be done in conjunction with earning a California teaching credential.
