Director Serves on Panel


Robert Benedetti, Political Science and Jacoby Center, served as a panelist at a public discussion on the Checks and Balances Act of 2012, an act directed at amending and modernizing the Sacramento City Charter.

Dr. Condon to Chair Committee of the Washington Semester Program


George Condon has been elected to a two-year term as chair of the Inter-Institutional Liaison Officers Committee of the Washington Semester Program at American University. He recently participated in the biennial meeting of this organization, which represents the views of the 235 universities and colleges, including Pacific, that are affiliated with the Washington Semester Program. More than 50 Pacific students have studied national politics and completed internships in Washington through this program.


Jacoby Center Helps Organize Panel to Discuss Civility in Democracy


There has been a lot of discussion recently about the language used by politicians and pundits during the past two years. The Jacoby Center and President Eibeck's office has organized a roundtable discussion afrom 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. on Jan. 31, 2011, in University of the Pacific's Janet Leigh Theatre called "Democracy and Civility: What level of civility is required for citizens to participate freely in politics?" It will be a discussion about whether politicians, pundits and their supporters should scale back their harsh rhetoric.

The event will include participation by Pacific President Pamela A. Eibeck, Stockton Mayor Ann Johnston, Stockton City Councilwoman Susan Eggman, and members of legislative staffs, Pacific faculty, and a high school teacher. It is free and open to the public. 


Dr. Benedetti Delivers Address at 2010 Montezuma Teacher Fellows Program and Leadership Summit


Dr. BenedettiDr. Robert Benedetti, Executive Director of the Jacoby Center for Public Service and Civic Leadership, delivered the Redwood Grove address at the 2010 Montezuma Teacher Fellows Program and the Montezuma Leadership Summit 2010. He spoke on trends in political science that complement community service initiatives. These gatherings were held August 5-8, 2010, at the Presentation Center in Los Gatos and included high school leaders and teachers in the audience. Both events were organized by Junior State of America, which has provided public policy leadership education for young people since 1934.


National Endowment for the Humanities Invites Dr. Benedetti to Join Review Team


Dr. Benedetti served as a member of the review team for Massachusetts Humanities at the invitation of the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). The team report will provide NEH with an evaluation of state council activities, which will be acted upon by their director and national board.
