Accomplishments
Daniel Kasser had several of his photographic works of the Central Valley exhibited at Turlock's Carnegie Arts Center. Valley Focus: Paintings by Chella & Photographs by Dan Kasser was on view in the center's Ferrari Gallery January 28 through March 22, 2015.
Monika Meler had a solo exhibit and delivered an artist lecture at the 1078 Gallery in Chico, California. Fragile Structures was on display from February 5 to March 7.
Jennifer Little has been invited to present her photography series 100 Years of Dust: Owens Lake and the Los Angeles Aqueduct at the March 12-15, 2015, Society for Photographic Education (SPE) National Conference in New Orleans, LA. She also presented this work at SPE West Regional Conference in Los Angeles November 14-16, 2014, with guest speaker Kathy Bancroft, the Tribal Historic Preservation Officer for the Lone Pine Paiute-Shoshone Reservation. Ms. Bancroft was also asked to speak at Pacific's, Reynolds Gallery, on Nov. 12, 2014, in conjunction with Jennifer's first solo faculty exhibition of this photography series about Owens Lake.
Visiting Lecturer, Michael Leonard, contributed his medical illustrations to Mastery of Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgery, Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins, which has now gone into 4th edition. As well as his involvement with this standard of surgical literature, Michael has illustrated over 30 medical books including, Neuroanatomy: Text and Atlas by John Martin, PhD., 4th ed., both books have received national awards in their 1st illustrated editions.
Monika Meler was included in the International Printmakers: Crossing Boundaries and Making Connections Exhibit at Gallery Shoal Creek in Austin, Texas. The exhibit was curated by noted print artist Karen Kunc and comes with a published catalogue. Meler is an Artist in Residence at Kala Arts in Berkeley, making a series of artworks that will be exhibited at the Southern Graphics Council International Conference in San Francisco in March of 2014. Her work is also on display at the LA Printspace in West Hollywood and will soon be exhibited as part of the 48th Annual National Drawing and Small Sculpture Show at the Del Mar College Art Gallery in Corpus Christi, Texas, an exhibit juried by Leonard Lehrer.
Monika Meler had her artwork accepted to the Stories We Tell exhibition, juried by Jessica Porter and curated by Karen Gutfreund, at Phoenix Gallery in New York City. Her work is also included in the published Stories We Tell exhibition catalog.
Merrill Schleier will have her article "The Two Lincolns, Monuments and the Preservation of Patriarchy in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939)" included in the December 2014 issue of the Quarterly Review of Film and Video.
Additionally, Professor Schleier completed chapters for two books scheduled for publication in 2014. These include "Post World War II Production Design and Boris Leven's Designs for the film Giant (1956") in Lucy Fisher ed., Art Direction in Twentieth Century American Film and "Frank Lloyd Wright's Ennis House in Cinema," in Medina Lasansky ed., Archipop. In 2012 and 2013, she received two SAAG awards and a Pacific Award to complete these projects. She presented papers on the above topics at the Society of Cinema Studies and the Society of Architectural Historians annual conferences in 2012 and 2013 and is on the board of the periodical Architecture and Culture.
Lucinda Kasser is one of the featured artists exhibiting in Bouquets: Gardens, Farmers Markets & Floral Still Lifes on view at the Knowlton Gallery in Lodi. In addition to showing her work, she presented a painting demonstration during the opening reception. As an artist represented by the Knowlton Gallery, Lucinda exhibits her paintings on an ongoing basis. As well as her current show, she has created work for exhibitions: One Random Day and Elevating the Ordinary.
Jennifer Little won first place in the juried exhibition The Human Impact: New Directions in Landscape Photography. Juried by photographers, Jo Babcock, Lucas Foglia, and Andrew Paynter, this exhibition was on view from October to November 2013 at Book and Job Gallery in San Francisco.
Marie Lee won a national competition to design visual identity, identity manual, poster and catalog cover for Metamorphoses of Politics: 19th Century Monuments in Czech organized by the Czech National Gallery and the City of Prague Archive held in the fall of 2013.
Daniel Kasser was one of the artists featured in Confrontations: Artists in the Natural World, exhibition at the Firehouse Arts Center's Harrington Gallery, in Pleasanton. This innovative exhibit, which explored the contentious relationship between man and environment, included photography, large format painting, sculpture and ceramics. In addition to his photography, Kasser presented an informal Artist Talk during the opening reception.
Monika Meler had two works of art juried into the Paper Cuts exhibit held at the Foundry Art Centre in St. Louis, Mo. Joyce Yarborough, an award-winning paper-cut artist, selected Meler's Untangle for a juror award. Monika has also participated in the following exhibitions: Where is Printmaking? In Search of New Meanings, The Contemporary Art Gallery in Opole, Poland, Sustenance: Printmaking Now, Redline Gallery, Milwaukee, Wisconsin and The Mythical and the Mundane, Siamsa Tire Gallery, Tralee, Ireland.
In December 2012, Kam Minority Heritage Project led by Marie A. Lee received the 2013 SEED (Social Economic Environmental Design) honorable mention award for excellence in Public Interest Design. Graphic Design students Anastasya Uskov '11, Joanne Kwan '11, and professor Jennifer Little contributed to the project. In association with this work, Lee was an instructor at the Public Interest Design Institute in Denver in April of 2013.

Trent Burkett was selected for a residency with the Artist In Wilderness Workshop in the White River National Forest near Marble, Colo. One to two artists are selected each year for the residencies to facilitate the creation of works inspired by the lands the Workshop seeks to protect. Burkett hiked in surrounding areas taking molds of rock formations, which he had shipped back to his studio where he will make sculptures that will mirror the texture and shape of the local rocks.

Merrill Schleier presented the paper, "Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin: the Convergence of Cinema and Architecture" at the Society of Architectural Historians conference in Buffalo, New York.
Merrill Schleier presented the paper "Ken Adams' Boy Toys: Location and Production Design in Early James Bonds Films" at the Society for Cinema and Media Studies annual conference in Chicago. Schleier has also been invited to serve on the editorial board of the British journal Architecture and Culture.
Dan Kasser Visual Arts, had his photographic work exhibited June through September 3, at the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento as part of Brought to Light: Masterworks of Photography from the Crocker Art Museum. The first photography survey of the Museum's collection in more than a decade, the exhibition showcased the history and artistic development of contemporary photography. Brought to Light featured 30 works from the 19th through the 21st century.
Merrill Schleier Visual Arts, had her article "Fatal Attractions: 'Place,' the Korean War, and Gender in Niagara (1953)" published in the Summer 2012 issue of Cinema Journal.
Monika Meler, Visual Arts, was awarded third place in the Beyond Printmaking III exhibit, by Juror and Artist Melanie Yazzie. The exhibit took place at Landmark Arts Gallery at Texas Tech University. In addition, Meler chaired the "Content of Paper" Panel and facilitated a Pressure Printing Workshop at the College Book Arts Association Conference, which took place in January at Mills College in Oakland.
Daniel Kasser, Visual Arts, during the summer of 2011, collaborated with Amanda Zimmerman, B.F.A. Studio Arts 2012, on Stockton Then and Now, a book on Stockton's urban development. Visiting lecturer, Michael Leonard, presented "Visual Storytelling: The Art of Illustration" on June 2, 2011 at the Haggin Museum.
Brett DeBoer, Cathie McClellan (Theatre Arts), and Joanna Albala successfully organized the first ever DeltaFusion festival. DeltaFusion is a celebration of Stockton's rich cultural heritage, and was funded in part by a $10,000 grant from the National Endowment of the Arts and Pacific Grant.
Merrill Schleier was invited in the summer of 2011 to deliver a public lecture on her book Skyscraper Cinema: Architecture and Gender in American Film at the Dessau Institute of Architecture in Dessau, Germany. The historic building by Walter Gropius was formerly the site of the original Bauhaus, one of the most important schools of experimental architecture, design, and art in the twentieth century from 1919-1933.
In May 2010, Professor Trent Burkett along with Jered Nelson and California State University Sacramento Professor Scott Parady, was approached by Frost Tsuji Architects about creating hand-made plateware for MICHAEL MINA, an upscale restaurant in San Francisco. The restaurant's owner and namesake wanted to create an organic feel to the dining experience by using hand-made plates, serving platters and other dishes.
Professor Burkett has spent the past several months producing hundreds of pieces, with the aid of student apprentices. "Not only are my dishes artwork that will be seen by many people, but they are enhanced by the color, texture and display of the artwork that the food placed on them creates," said Burkett.

Brett DeBoer guided four senior graphic design students who decided to establish a new wayfinding system for the Stockton campus as a class project in 2009-2010. Rocha, David Mayman,
Glynnis Koike and Lauren Friedrich worked together to create the Pacific Lantern wayfinding system, which covers everything from signage and campus maps to iPhone applications and website information. In May 2010, the student team presented their proposal to President Pamela Eibeck and other university executives. The administration has agreed to adopt the system, and plans for implementation are underway.

The exhibit Excavating the Underground featured photography by Visual Arts professor Jennifer Little and Stanford graduate Mike Osborne that explores the subterranean urban landscape. The show ran from July 6 through August 8, 2010, at the Thomas Welton Stanford Art Gallery on the Stanford University campus in Palo Alto. With her series Barriers and Conduits, Professor Little has created "poetic visual effects" from urban waterways of Austin, Texas, and Memphis, Tennessee, where she shot from within culverts and beneath bridges and freeway overpasses.
Marie A. Lee had a solo exhibition in Galerie Perla in Prague, Czech Republic, in June 2010. Her work was displayed through the summer in the Faculty Center Commons in the Main Library. In addition, her Eye Spy series was included in Sensory Overload, an exhibition that "aims to explore the physiological methods of perception," at Gallery 31, Corcoran Gallery of Art, in Washington, D.C. in July. Visiting Lecturer Jill Vasileff exhibited work from her series, Underpinnings, at Sensory Overload as well.
Lucinda Kasser, in conjunction with her participation in the exhibit Interiors: Still Life and Interior Landscapes at the Knowlton Gallery, was invited to give a still life painting demonstration at the opening reception in May 2010.
