NSF released "Responsible Conduct of Research Frequently Asked Questions" on March 1, 2010.

Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) Training for Grad Students and Postdocs
All University of the Pacific undergraduate students working on NSF-sponsored research projects are required to complete Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) provided by the Center on Materials and Devices for Information Technology Research (CMDITR).

Three Steps:

REGISTER

1. Self-register for the course on the CMDITR RCR web site.
2. Click on the link for "User Account Registration Form".
3. Enter your name and email address.
4. Enter the department in which you are doing research.*

5. Select "University of the Pacific" as the group you are affiliated with.
6. Check the box next to the agreement statement "I agree to use the RCR modules for educational purposes only."
7. Enter the "text" that appears in the box provided.
8. Select "sign up"
9. You will be sent an email with your username (i.e., the email address you listed) and a password (which you can change after logging into the CMDITR RCR site using the provided password).

*Note: Please complete this field and select from the Departments listed in the drop-down menu. We ask for this information so we can report on who has completed the RCR program and which Department they are affiliated with.

 

COMPLETE CMDITR MODULES (all must be completed)
Module 1: Rights and Obligations
Module 2: Collaboration, Communication, and Grants Management
Module 3: Intellectual Property

The three CMDITR modules are divided into sections. Most sections have a short quiz at the end where the user will be required to answer all quiz questions correctly before leaving that section. Learners may complete the RCR Modules over the course of different sessions: if you leave off in the middle of a section, the site will remember where you left off and save your place.

CONFIRM COMPLETION
Users who have completed the CMDITR RCR modules will see a notification message when they log in to the CMDITR RCR website that they are "certified". The group leader will also be able to see that the user is certified.
