Key Jacoby Center Projects

The Jacoby Center has played a key part in several projects that have allowed students to apply the lessons learned in the classroom to real-life situations to help their community. The Center also provides regular internship opportunities in Sacramento and Washington D.C.

  • Midtown Magnolia Project, an initiative that supports revitalization efforts of a historical neighborhood in Stockton, and includes tutoring, after school and youth programs.
  • Sacramento Experience, a program that places students as interns in government, lobbying or non-profit organizations in the California capital while they attend a weekly seminar focused on state politics and public policy.
  • Washington Semester, a program that enables students to spend a semester at American University in Washington D.C. while receiving academic credit at Pacific for participating in a combination of internship, academic and seminar experiences.
  • Vote Smart Project, an initiative that includes social science research in support of the San Joaquin County Registrar of Voters in order to improve the voter education and the balloting process.
  • Grassroots Global Institute, an organization that empowers democratic citizenship and leadership at the community level, by bringing local leaders from cities here and abroad together for conversations.
  • STOCKTONSpeaks! is a collaborative effort between the City of Stockton, the Jacoby Center and several non-profit community organizations. It was funded in part by the California Council for the Humanities. This oral history project showcases a collection of multicultural, multigenerational "coming-of-age" stories from 54 Stockton residents in nine ethnic groups. StocktonSpeaks!
